South African season in France
France hosted South Africa from May to December 2013, after being invited in 2012.
During this period, the French public was able to immerse themselves in South Africa today - a young thriving democracy that continues to heal the wounds of past oppression and that every day advance to consolidate its position in today's world.
In a hundred cities (Metropolitan and Reunion Island), over two hundred artistic and cultural events but also scientific, technical, economic or gastronomic, sports and tourism testified to the South African diversity. Festivals and most prestigious such as smaller structures institutions have participated together in this wide spotlight on the strength of this emerging power, a member of the BRICS and the G20.
This Season of exceptional magnitude also wanted to honor Nelson Mandela, father figure of the nation rainbow sky with a new exhibition in Paris, which was a resounding success, and giving a national echo the Day international Nelson Mandela July 18. His disappearance on December 5 gave an even stronger signal at the end of the South African season in France.
Season in numbers: 30 exhibitions / workshops 35/40 residential / 50 movies / concerts 100/150 South African wine tasting / 250 performances of dance and theater / 1000 artists, researchers and other stakeholders.
